Free-Form Work
/The whole reason for being free is to bring the gifts to the world that you came here for.
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes PhD, The Power of the Crone
Free-form work is something we can all do naturally. It is the ability we have in us to express the wisdom of our bodies and minds to achieve balance, harmony, and self-healing. All we have to do is to allow it to happen. Free-form work is so versatile and broad that it allows each person to change movement, thinking, and behavioral patterns in a way that is spontaneous and often (though not always) enjoyable.
With time, we learn to trust the process of free-form work and the results that it brings; and with that we deepen our trust in our bodies and ourselves. We develop a whole new level of self-expression and inner-connection.
For me, teaching the Paula Method to a student without teaching free-form work is like showing them a beautiful garden without giving them the key to go inside. I know that for many students the exercises are so fascinating and helpful that they have no interest in learning free-form work.
I am also aware of the fact that following a type of practice that tells them exactly what to do and how to do it feels safer. People like to feel in control. It is a lot harder to let go, to allow something that is spontaneous to awaken and show itself, to trust the authentic flow, to listen to ourselves. It is difficult for most people to remain open and curious and patiently let things be. But when they do, they realize that the spontaneous movement was always there, waiting to be released. It has the wisdom to heal them in a unique and authentic way. Nothing else compares to it.
